An outboard propeller is read by identifying the diameter (the distance of a straight line passing through the center and ending at the circumference) and pitch (the distance a propeller would move in one revolution without slipping). These measurements are often stamped or cast on the propeller, usually as two numbers separated by a hyphen or "x".
